There are at least five steps which managers involved in the
lay-off process can adopt which will lessen the dysfunctional effects of the
lay-off.
If
lay-offs are necessary, methods can be used to minimize the negative impact.
"I do regret the fact that the news came out in this way and I regret the fact that, in the short term, there will be temporary
lay-offs and a reduction in shifts," he said.
The
lay-offs would be effective from the end of this month, but workers may consider voluntary retirement.

lay-offs at its plant in Helsinki, which currently has a total 62 employees, in a move to prepare for an expected decline in demand.
