Zoom

To focus the lens of a camera such that it appears that a photographer is closer to or farther away from a picture he/she takes. If the photographer focuses so that the subject appears closer, he/she is said to zoom in; if the photographer focuses so that the subject appears farther away, he/she is said to zoom out. Zooming became possible with the invention of the Zoomar lens in 1959.

6L IS USM lens features push-pull zooming operation (unlike most other EF lenses that utilize a ring-type zoom) though it does have a zoom adjustment ring that allows a user to loosen, tighten or lock the zoom control.
Its most striking feature is a 6x optical zoom lens - the same zooming power that can be found on Fujifilm's critically acclaimed FinePix 6900 Zoom digital camera - which brings the distant photographer much closer to the action.
