VAL

ISO 4217 code for the Vatican lira. It was introduced in 1929 upon the Vatican's independence from Italy. It was pegged to the Italian lira at a one-to-one ratio. Vatican and Italian coins circulated alongside each other in both the Vatican and Italy. The euro replaced both currencies in 1999.
