Underground Storage Tank Act was passed by the Navajo Nation Council on October 29, 1998.
Among other things, it expands eligible uses of the Leaking
Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Trust Fund, and includes provisions regarding inspections, operator training, delivery prohibition, secondary containment and financial responsibility, and cleanup of releases that contain oxygenated fuel additives.
Barton said the amendment was unnecessary since the bill called for the inspection of
underground storage tanks. Barton conceded that the inspections would not begin within the three years that Capps sought in her amendment.
The pilotproject, called USTfields, involves abandoned or under-used industrial and commercial properties with perceived or actual contamination from petroleum that has leaked from
underground storage tanks (USTs).
So far this decade, states have reported over 371,000 confirmed releases from regulated
underground storage tanks (approximately 60 percent of which affected local water quality).
Probably no businesses were affected more by recent regulations on
underground storage tanks than Mom-and-Pop gas stations in eastern Oregon.
During the 1980s federal, state and local governments adopted
underground storage tank laws that held their owners and users strictly liable for the cleanup of any contamination resulting from leaks.
While there are a number of provisions that could apply to the foundry industry, some of the most significant include the "land ban," corrective action and the
underground storage tank program.
The facility has made significant improvements to come into compliance including the removal of an
underground storage tank, providing personnel training and implementing better management practices.
LANCASTER - The town will receive a $2,200 state grant from the Department of Revenue for the removal of an
underground storage tank that once fueled the Prescott, Tercentenary and Memorial buildings on the Town Green.

underground storage tank in an Upper West Side apartment," recalled Frankel.
