Sunrise Industries

Industries in an economy that are growing rapidly and may become market leaders in the future. One example is the Internet industry in the 1990s. While many such companies were just part of the dot-com bubble, companies like Google and Amazon grew very quickly throughout the decade and are now considered fairly prominent stocks. Identifying sunrise industries can be risky, as one may be wrong about a market's direction. However, a correct investment can provide rapid capital appreciation in the near term and a steady return in the long term. See also: Industry life cycle, Sunset industry.
