Running Head

A title that appears at the top of each page of a publication. The running head may be the name of a chapter, article or even the book or magazine.

One can go directly from the contents page to any chapter, section or page and can retrieve the contents page at any time by pointing at the chapter number which appears in the running head of each page of the main text.
Placing the chapter title or section heading in a running head or foot can also aid navigation.
Consultation of the main directory would be simplified if running heads were used at the top of each page, and advertisements inserted throughout the volume interfere with the flow of the text.
