process mapping

process mapping

a technique that uses graphic representation to map either in sequence or holistically a series of activities that together form a process. Process mapping is aimed at providing a better understanding of the process as visualized and to seek improvements (usually reductions) in the activities carried out, without altering the function of the process. See for example, PROCESS-FOCUSED LAYOUT. See LEAN MANUFACTURING.
