Autoimmune diseases are on the rise, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is no exception.
In the study period, a total of 299 patients were hospitalized with the diagnosis of polyneuropathy and 183 patients had acute presentation.
The fact that the complementary tests performed for the etiological diagnosis were negative and that the symptoms have not appeared again after the drug was discontinued made us think that golimumab has played an essential role in the origin of the polyneuropathy. An autoantibody against anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (anti-MDA5) is capable of recognizing long dsRNA structures or binding to viral RNA and contributes to type 1 interferon-mediated inflammation.[1] The anti-MDA5 is identified from the group of clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis initially and associated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD).[2] Here, we described the patient with anti-MDA5-positive dermatomyositis whose initial presentation mimicking demyelinating polyneuropathy.
