Participate But Do Not Initiate

An instruction to a broker indicating that the investor does not want to trade in such a way that he/she affects the prices of any securities. A participate but do not initiate order occurs when the investor has made a large order to buy or sell a security.

A customer instruction on a large order to a broker when the customer does not want the order to affect the price of the security. The instruction indicates that the broker should handle the order in such a way that no price change will be initiated by the broker.
