Monthly stages in the
ovarian cycle of 13 adult females of Aspidoscelis tigris maximus from Baja California Sur, Mexico.
[ED.sub.CYP19] was entered as an input to the
ovarian cycle model, which was then solved to obtain the time profile of its output variables over 2 y of simulated time.
This anatomy is maintained during the entire
ovarian cycle, although the weight and morphology vary.
We focused on the annual
ovarian cycle, size at reproduction, and number of eggs per clutch (clutch size).
The
ovarian cycle could not be determined because this period does not occur concurrently with the gestation period, and the asynchronous nature of the reproductive cycle prevents it by analyzing the time series of follicle diameter of non-gravid mature females.
Once an individual becomes pubertal, this sequential pattern of ovarian activity (follicle growth-ovulation-corpus luteum formation) is continually repeated, and is known as the
ovarian cycle. Before we consider the details of
ovarian cycles, it may be helpful to note that in cases of multiple births more than one follicle reaches the pre-ovulatory stage and ovulates.
Gonad Index and the
Ovarian Cycle by Light Microscopic Observation
Early and late in a woman's reproductive years, her chances of failing to release an egg during the monthly
ovarian cycle are much greater than in the intervening years.
In support of September being Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the 2nd Annual
Ovarian Cycle Jackson fundraiser is taking place September 17.
[5] Platelet function is periodically altered during the
ovarian cycle due to the influence of progestin and estrogen on von Willebrand factor (vWF) concentrations.
Although studies of reproductive hormones and the
ovarian cycle have been extensively conducted on other macaques, there is little information of Formosan macaques.
Five stages in the
ovarian cycle were observed in May (39 adult females): 1) quiescent, no deposition of yolk (13 specimens); 2) early deposition of yolk, basophilic vitellogenic granules in the cytoplasm (6 specimens); 3) enlarged follicles >5 mm (12 specimens); 4) oviductal eggs (7 specimens); 5) oviductal eggs with concurrent deposition of yolk (1 specimen).
