operational research

the application of mathematical and statistical techniques to industrial processes as a means of establishing optimal operating procedures and systems. Such techniques as LINEAR PROGRAMMING, NETWORK ANALYSIS, computer-based SIMULATION techniques, COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN and STOCKHOLDING MODELS can be used in various areas of a firm's operations to establish cost-effective and efficient working practices.
