There are plentiful data, mostly generated from in-vitro experiments, that support the deleterious effects of nonphysiologic pH, GDPs, lactate, and high osmolality on peritoneal cell function, survival and host defenses,
mesothelial cell viability, mad inflow pain during PDF infusion (Witowski, et al., 2001; Jorres, Gahl, & Frei, 1994; Topley, 1998; Struik & Douma, 1998; Wieslander et al., 1991; Duwe, Vas, & Weatherhead, 1981; Liberek, Topley, & Jorres, 1993; Douvdevani et al., 1995; Arbeiter et al., 2001).
The coated side of Sepramesh remains in place for up to seven days, separating the mesh from abdominal viscera while an adhesion-resistant
mesothelial cell layer develops over the peritoneal side of the prosthesis.
