management consultanta person or firm which specializes in advising companies and other organizations on matters relating to their business strategy, organizational structure and the management of operations in functional areas such as marketing and production. Management consultants are employed to examine a company's current business practices and management, with a view to making recommendations for change aimed at improving efficiency and profitability. Unlike ‘insiders’, often with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, the use of an independent team of consultants can provide an objective and detached assessment of what a firm needs to do in order to strengthen its organization.
