In a relative sense, our results in terms of a lack of gender difference differ from those in studies on tolerance of lying behavior, telling a lie to
parents (Jensen et al., 2004; Keltikangas-Jarvinen & Lindeman, 1997), and lying about issues such as money and using alcohol/ medicine (Jensen et al., 2004).
Children lie to

In some experiments, only one possible lie option was open to them, while in others there was a choice available of which lie to
"I take a lie to
be an assertion, the content of which the speaker believes to be false, which is made with the intention to deceive the hearer with respect to that content" (Williams 2002, 96); or, more formally: To lie [=.sub.df] to make an assertion that is believed to be false to some audience with the intention to deceive the audience about the content of that assertion.
However, an admirable 7% of parents said they didn't knowingly tell lies to their kids, with the majority of them (84%) reasoning that it was hypocritical to lie to
your child yet expect them to tell the truth.
