robota form of programmable automatic machine that performs repetitive PRODUCTION tasks in place of human operatives on a PRODUCTION LINE. Robots can be used for tasks such as welding or spray painting, which can be unhealthy for human operatives to perform, and assembly tasks, which can be performed more rapidly and consistently than by human workers. The use of robots can therefore improve the PRODUCTIVITY of production operations and the QUALITY of products.
