An illegal act in which one coerces another into providing money or something else of value. For example, one may extort money from a business by threat of force. Extortion historically has been common in organized crime.
A citizen appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office on July 24 saying a prosecutor of Issyk-Kul district extorts $300 bribe from him, while his deputy extorted 40,000 som for closure of the criminal case opened against him.
The larger scandal, of course, is that the IRS, using methods reminiscent of a totalitarian secret police agency or crime syndicate, extorts hundreds of billions of dollars from productive Americans every year.
