Quantifying the economic benefits of Logitech's ECDN is difficult, as yet, but for a content-delivery investment of less than $150,000, Logitech has been able to create efficiencies that justify the ECDN expenditures.
"By deploying ECDN solutions, not only did we accelerate our data center ERP application performance, but we also dramatically improved the real-time response of the applications to our employees in remote locations, allowing them to more quickly serve our customers."
Logitech is investigating other applications for the ECDN that go beyond the remote access of centralized applications.
Ustream eCDN will help businesses, governmental agencies, and educational institutions to unlock the value that video can bring with a new level of scale and reliability.
Installed as a virtual server within a companys firewall, Ustream eCDN delivers a single instance of a video asset live or on-demand that is cached and served to viewers who need to access it on the network.
Ustream eCDN is designed to work with Ustreams enterprise streaming video solutions such as Ustream Align, the companys internal video platform, and will be offered as an optional service.
When using rendez-vous, the encoder and eCDN initiate link requests from behind their respective firewalls, meeting halfway to handshake and establish a connection.
To illustrate how SmartPath works, consider how you would efficiently webcast a presentation to a dozen locations behind the firewall, some of which are multicast enabled, others that are accessible to an enterprise CDN (eCDN)--and still others that not.
For example, for locations that lacked eCDN service, you could do peer-to-peer webcasting from a cloud-based media server.
With enterprise delivery platforms and eCDNs, you want to be sure that the product/service can distribute a wide range of content types.
A scalable, network-optimized enterprise deployment leverages IP bandwidth via the corporate data network (including VPN and/or eCDN) and incorporates a variety of audio-visual equipment, encoders, and databases as well as web, streaming, and application servers in this, or a similar, workflow:
