computer program

a set of instructions set out in a clear and logical sequence which tells a processor within a COMPUTER how to perform a particular task. Computer programs are often written in ‘high-level’ program languages like BASIC (beginners all-purpose symbolic instruction code) or COBOL (common business-orientated language), but must then be converted into MACHINE CODE for use in a computer.
