Foot and mouth disease is reported to be one of the most contagious diseases amongst
cloven hoofed animals and is a disease of economic importance.
Explaining further, the reply stated that 'wildebeest' was an antelope and belongs to the same
cloven hoofed and two-horned family as cattle, goats, sheep and was native to Africa.
This followed the recent suspected outbreak of FMD in Naune in the Sehithwa extension area which has resulted in the suspension of the movement and slaughter of all
cloven hoofed animals within and out of Sehithwa, Toteng, Bodibeng, Kareng and Semboyo.
Alpacas are easy on the ground they graze on due to the soft pads on their
cloven hoofs and the lack of upper teeth.
