captive product pricing

captive product pricing

the PRICING of a CAPTIVE PRODUCT. When a supplier's main product and captive product are unique (i.e. there is no interchangeability with competing products), the supplier may choose to charge a low price for the main product to encourage people to buy it, with the objective of thereafter making the bulk of his profits from continuing sales of captive products.
