The first thing to do in the case of avulsion is to look for the
avulsed tooth and replant it.4,7,11-14 In the present study, most of the participants choose to remove the tooth outside the child's mouth if it was out of its place.
Among all the factors, EODT and storage medium are considered the most critical factors that affects the outcome of an
avulsed tooth. Results of the current study showed that only 50% of dentists were aware that EODT is a critical factor for optimal healing of an
avulsed tooth and 80% dentists recognised less than 60 minutes as a critical time.
Several factors might influence in the success of replantation, such as: extension of the trauma, extra-alveolar permanence period, means of preservation, contamination, manipulation and conditions of the
avulsed tooth (36).
When presented with a scenario in which they find an
avulsed tooth or a tooth fragment, 14.6% of the teachers would not touch it.
Question 4: Best medium for storage of
avulsed tooth.
Presence of viable periodontal ligament cells is the most important factor in determining the final prognosis of an
avulsed tooth. (1,2,7) If there is no prospect for immediate replantation performance, the
avulsed tooth should be kept in an appropriate storage media in order to prevent the PDL cells death.
When asked which liquid is preferred for washing an
avulsed tooth, about 53.1% responded correctly as tap water.
(22) An
avulsed tooth should be gently rinsed with saline and placed back in its socket, if possible, and held in place by having the player bite down gently on gauze.
The average number of avulsed teeth per child was 1.4, and 69.7 Percent of the children were found to have one
avulsed tooth, while 19.7 Percent presented with two and 10.6 Percent presented three avulsed teeth.
For each patient only one
avulsed tooth was randomly selected to be recruited in the study.
