The state of funds deposited into an account that a customer is able to withdraw. This especially applies to check deposits, because funds deposited by check often do not become available for a certain number of days while the bank ensures that the check is valid. Under the Expedited Funds Availability Act of 1987, banks in the United States must grant availability to funds within a certain number of days. See also: Check hold.
