accreditation of experiential learning
accreditation of experiential learningthe award of credit for a period of relevant work experience or similar to gain admission to or exemption from some part of an educational or TRAINING course. The principle underlying it is that the technical skills (‘competences’) and conceptual understanding likely to have been gained during this time is broadly equivalent to that which would have been obtained from a specified programme of education or training. Some method of assessment might be used as part of the accreditation process. This type of accreditation is linked to the attempt to establish national standards of competence found in the NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION initiative.
