combine committee

combine committee

a committee of TRADE UNION representatives, usually SHOP STEWARDS, drawn from a number of plants in a company with the objective of coordinating pressure (for example to improve pay) on the management of the company. Combine committees are rarely effective in the long term because it is often difficult to identify all the plants in a company and because the interests of workers between plants are often divergent (especially where there is plant-level COLLECTIVE BARGAINING).
