The former currency of Bolivia. It was introduced in 1963 and was pegged to the U.S. dollar. It suffered from high inflation, resulting in several devaluations and finally abandonment of the peg in favor of a managed float. Devaluation continued until the peso boliviano became a floating currency, resulting in a near total loss of its value. In 1987, the second boliviano replaced the peso boliviano at a rate of 1 million peso bolivianos to one boliviano.
