Used in context of general equities. Securities are "absorbed" as long as there are corresponding orders to buy and sell. The market has reached the absorption point when further assimilation is impossible without an adjustment in price. See: Sell the book.

Absorbed

1. In business, an expense that the company does not pass on to customers. For example, if a company's costs increase from $5 to $7 per unit, but it decides to maintain its price at $10 per unit, it is said to absorb the extra $2.

2. Acquired. That is, an absorbed company is one that another company buys and then integrates into its current operations.

3. In underwriting, fully subscribed.
