That's why the TUC is calling for a four-day
working week, with decent pay for everyone.
Mark Rhodes, marketing director at reed.co.uk, said: "For some, planning for the
working week ahead can go a long way to improving the feeling of preparedness for Monday morning, but this shouldn't come at the expense of enjoying the time off you are entitled to.
Ed Whiting, Wellcome's director of policy, told the paper: "It looks like moving the
working week to four days rather than five gets you a broader productivity and wellbeing benefit.
At the moment, UK productivity is lower than many other leading countries and UK workers have a longer average
working week of 42 hours.
"We will look at the
working week because I think people are working too long."
However members of the Unite union were re-balloted on Monday over an offer of a shorter
working week.
The report, partly written by broadcaster Pat Kane, wants to see a shorter
working week phased in over 10 years in a bid to reduce welfare spending.
However, last week it emerged that 15 members of the kingdom's legislative council were calling for the
working week to be increased to 45 hours, or nine hours per day, claiming that a shorter week is largely for the benefit of expatriates.
A group of economists believes the
working week should be reduced from an average of 40 hours to just 30 and cite Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, among others, as examples of countries that have shorter
working weeks but no less productivity among workers, the Independent reported.

working week of 100,000 health workers by 1.5 hours would save between [euro]80million and [euro]100million, it has been reported.
