U.S. Secretary of Education
The head of the U.S. Department of Education. The secretary is responsible for establishing and implementing policies related to federal funding and other assistance for education. He/she is also charged with enforcing civil rights as they relate to education. The secretary is appointed by the president of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.
