Secretary of Agriculture
The head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is charged with assisting farmers and ranchers. The secretary is responsible for food inspections, rural development (for example, by providing mortgages outside cities), and some agricultural research. He or she is appointed by the president of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.
