Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act
Legislation governing the rights and responsibilities of residential landlords and tenants.Currently,some version of the law has been passed by many states.As a general matter, the laws
• Standardize and simplify the eviction process
• Require the tenant to pay rent into court during the pendency of an eviction if it is contested
• Limit the amount of any security deposits
• Provide for prompt repayment of security deposits
• Require certain minimal conditions of habitability
• Impose penalties for breach of the provisions.
