Secretary of Labor
The head of the U.S. federal government department charged with enforcement of laws regulating workplace conditions, minimum wages, and other federal labor laws. The secretary is also responsible for the administration of unemployment insurance and collection of some economic statistics, particularly regarding unemployment. He or she is appointed by the president of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.
