U.S Department of Commerce

A department of the United States federal government charged with encouraging economic growth. It issues patents, sets standards for companies and sectors and gathers data on the state of the American economy. It also supervises the U.S. Census. It was established in 1903 as the Department of Commerce and Labor; Commerce split from what became the Labor Department in 1913.
