Secretary of State for Northern Ireland

The head of the Northern Ireland Office, which is the department of the British government responsible for the administration of devolution of power from the central government to the Northern Irish regional government. He/she oversees national security, elections, and similar matters in Northern Ireland. The secretary is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the prime minister.
