Scottish Ministers' Widows' Fund
An insurance fund constituted in 1748 to take care of the widows of ministers in the Church of Scotland. Annual premiums were invested, and benefits were paid out of the gains on these investments. It was the first insurance fund to pay benefits out of investments rather than directly out of premiums.
