SAT was no overnight success, but by the 1970s it was the dominant admissions consideration for colleges that needed a way to weed out large numbers of applicants.
The better the
SAT score, the more selective college one can attend, and thus, in theory, the better job one can ultimately get.
The new report appears in the midst of an extensive review of
SAT items by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, N.J., which formulates the college-entrance examination.
