In Islamic law, an alternate term for riba al-fadl, which is the exchange of different amounts of the same good in which the delivery of one occurs at a later date. For example, two parties may exchange 10 bushels of corn now for 12 bushels next month. It is called riba al-sunnah because this type of riba is not specifically prohibited in the Quran, but is disallowed by the traditions surrounding the Quran, which are called the Sunnah.
