Regional Fund
A mutual fund that invests predominantly or exclusively in the securities of a single region of the globe. While a regional fund may be diversified in other ways (e.g. it may hold both stocks and bonds), it selects securities based upon the countries in which they trade or are issued. Regional funds usually carry less political risk than single-country funds. Some analysts argue that, in an age of globalization, there is little difference between regional, single-country, and global funds, but others dispute that.
