NBC

The common abbreviation for the National Broadcasting Company, which was the first major broadcasting network in the United States. NBC launched as a radio network in 1926 and began television broadcasts in 1938 (it ended its radio component in 2003). With a market share of more than 40% of the viewing audience, it is very popular among advertisers who wish to disseminate their messages to as wide a group as possible.

BEIRUT: The owner of the Tripoli mobile shop that sold the eight mobile phone numbers comprising the alleged red network involved in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri began testifying to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon Monday.
While the shop owner claimed he did not keep any wholesale or retail business records, the prosecution used documents from his distributors and customers to implicate him in the procurement of the eight prepaid mobile phone lines in the red network, one of which allegedly belonged to defendant Salim Ayyash.
In a previous hearing, the prosecution alleged that the red network SIM cards were purchased and topped up with credit in Tripoli for the purpose of laying a false trail of responsibility for the attack, by suggesting that the perpetrators were based in Tripoli.
"All of the statements pertain to residents of Tripoli, whose names were listed as the subscribers of the Red Network phones but whose identification documents were used without their knowledge," the prosecution said in a court filing.
"The prosecution further alleges that the Red Network SIM cards were purchased and topped up with credit in Tripoli for the purpose of laying a false trail of responsibility for the attack, by suggesting that the perpetrators were based in Tripoli," prosecutors added.
Korkmaz began by pointing out that the prosecution had failed to identify the actual perpetrators of the attack, members of the so-called "red network" of telephones led by Salim Ayyash, one of the five suspects named by the court, and nor had they identified the alleged masterminds behind the bombing.
