primary sectorthe part of the economy concerned with the extraction of raw materials and the provision of agricultural crops and animal produce. The primary sector, together with the INDUSTRIAL SECTOR and the SERVICE SECTOR, form an inter-locking chain of economic activities that constitute a modern economy. See STRUCTURE OF INDUSTRY.
