Notopfer

Notopfer

A German term for emergency levy. During the hyperinflation of the early Weimar Republic, the German state imposed notopfer, a series of emergency taxes implemented because other forms of taxation lost their value even before they were remitted to the government, making it impossible for the government to meet its expenditures via taxation.
