National Securities Trading System

An automated quotation system connecting brokers on the National Stock Exchange (Cincinnati Stock Exchange) to other brokers around the country, allowing them to make orders for certain securities without regard for the specific exchange on which they are traded. The system is exclusive to the National Stock Exchange, but contains a blueprint for what some envision as a future nation-wide exchange. See also: Intermarket Trading System.

National Securities Trading System (NSTS)

An automated centralized quotation system used by the Cincinnati Stock Exchange that permits brokers to enter orders for certain securities and expose them to other brokers and dealers around the country. This experiment in developing a national market for securities differs from the Intermarket Trading System in that the Intermarket Trading System connects only specialists on exchanges. See also automated stock trading.
