Borax

Sodium borate, a compound used in detergents and makeup as well as in insecticides and metallurgy. As such, it has both industrial and consumer product uses.

The purified strains were subjected to screening for PHB production after cultivation on three different mineral salts production media: M1 or modified E2 medium (Berekaa and Al-Thawadi, 2012), M2 medium (g/L): ammonium sulfate; 2, KH2PO4; 6.67, (NH4)HPO4; 4, MgSO4.7H2O; 0.8, 5 mL traces element solution (HCl, 5; FeSO4.7H2O, 10; CaCl2 2; MnSO4.4H2O, 0.5; ZnSO4.7H2O, 2.2; CuSO4.5H2O, 1.9; (NH4)Mo7O24 0.1; Na2B4O7.10H2O, 0.02) and M3 medium (g/L): glucose, 10; ammonium sulfate; 2, KH2PO4; 0.5, MgSO4.7H2O; 0.2, NaCl; 0.1, peptone; 2.5 and yeast extract; 2.5) and incubation at 37degC.
The randomized complete block (RCB) design was used with factorial arrangement having litchi cultivars in main blocks while 13 treatments comprising of different doses of CaCl2 and Borax (Na2B4O7 10H2O) including control in subplots.
Wastewater samples used in the experiments were prepared synthetically using Na2B4O7 and As2O3.
