numerical control

a system of controlling an automatic machine by means of a programme of instructions (often COMPUTER based) which relate to the particular operations being performed on a component. Machines which are operated by numerical control usually work with greater speed and accuracy than machines operated by hand and are particularly suited to MASS PRODUCTION OR PRODUCTION LINE manufacture.
