Mixed Credit

A series of loans offered to a borrower containing loans with both prevailing interest rates and discounted interest rates.

There have been significant changes since 1979: the Overseas Development Agency was rationalised and lost its status as a separate ministry; there was a general decline in the real volume of aid; a reduction of tied bilateral aid but the expansion of mixed credits which were of benefit to a small group of major companies; the commercialisation of the aid system and of the FCO; and an apparent increase in the role of the DTI.
