A department of the British government responsible for highway maintenance, motor vehicle registration, the coastguard, and other similar issues. It was created in 2002, but traces its origins to the early 20th century.

the UK government department responsible for administering government policies relating to the roads, railways, aviation and shipping. Local Government and the Regions are now handled by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
