Model

Any mathematical formula or other structure that economists use to explain or predict occurrences. Economists test their models with real world facts before they gain wide acceptance, but, even then, there is no guarantee that a model will always be a correct predictor. See also: Model risk.

model

An abstraction of reality, generally referring in investments to a mathematical formula designed to determine security values. Economists also use models to project trends in economic variables such as interest rates, economic activity, and inflation rates.

In our specific case study, an independent public hospital supplies treatments to patients with MPM free of charge (ie, these treatments are recognized as essential by the Italian Ministry of Health) and the Local Health Authority then reimburses these activities according to pre-established standard fees (ie, treatments are bought on the market at a fixed price).

In this study, we analyzed the efficiencies of analyzing serum MPF, soluble mesothelin, hyaluronan, osteopontin, and syndecan-1 levels, both individually and in combination, for distinguishing patients with MPM from those with other pleural diseases such as metastatic malignant pleural diseases (MMPDs), benign pleural diseases (BPDs), and benign asbestos pleurisy (BAP) in a research and clinical center located to an area where mesothelioma and other asbestos-related lung diseases are endemic.
The choice of surgery for MPM is controversial because data from randomized controlled trials are not available.
Subjects with asbestosis were significantly older (median age, 73 years) than the subjects in the MPM (median age, 66 years; P < 0.05) and AE (median age, 67 years; P < 0.05) groups.
