A management style in which employees are given a great deal of autonomy and in which individual contributions are encouraged. An advantage to loose reins is the potential to foster creativity; that is, proponents believe that the relaxed atmosphere encourages innovation and productivity. Critics maintain that loose reins lead to laziness and, at worst, insubordination.
