Institute for Supply Management

An organization in the United States that conducts research and educational activities regarding supply management and the professionals involved with it. It publishes a monthly magazine and is well known for collecting and distributing the Purchasing Managers Index each month. It was established in 1915.

WASHINGTON -- Institute for Supply Management releases its manufacturing index for August, 10 a.m.; Commerce Department releases construction spending for July, 10 a.m.
The Nikkei slipped below the 12,000 mark for the first time in nearly one month as the Institute for Supply Management's business sentiment data turned out lower than market expectations, fueling uncertainties about an economic recovery in the world's largest economy, brokers said.
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said its index of national factory activity rose to 53.4 from 52.4 in February, beating economists' expectations of 53.0.
And according to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), its most recent Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) hit 50.8, which equates to 2.9 percent GDP growth.
