Honduran Lempira(redirected from Honduras Lempira)
The currency of Honduras. It is named after Lempira, a 16th century chieftain who led a resistance against the Spanish. It was introduced in 1931, replacing the Honduran peso. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the lempira underwent a great deal of inflation, but it has since stabilized. However, tourist centers and some other areas of the Honduras accept the U.S. dollar in addition to the lempira.
