environmental impact assessment

an assessment of the environmental impact of a proposed INVESTMENT project such as a new road or by-pass to determine the extent of any POLLUTION effects and destruction of natural habitats. Government authorities in the European Union are now required to undertake an environmental impact assessment of a proposed public investment project. See COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS.
